Authenticate Driver's Licenses with EasyLobby Visitor Control Software

Monday, May 10, 2010 by John Murzycki

EasyLobby provides two primary ways for you to scan the contents of a license during visitor sign in.

The first is an 'optical character recognition (OCR)' scan that essentially extracts the textual data and photo from the license.

This scan method uses a Snapshell scanner such as the one shown on the left. It takes a picture of the license and captures the photo that can be used when issuing visitor ID badges.

Another method of validating a driver's license is to pass it through a 2D barcode reader or magnetic stripe reader such as the Intellicheck reader show on the right. This reader takes the information embedded on the license 2D barcode or magnetic stripe on the back of the license. Taking data using this method is quick and accurate.

The benefits of using either of these methods in your visitor registration system include the ability to capture visitor data without typing the information, and the ability to validate the identity of the visitor.

Scanning licenses confirms that the ID is valid and not a fake. We also determine if the ID has expired. A message in our visitor monitoring software lets the lobby attendant know if an ID is either expired or not valid.

With organizations more concerned about visitor security and protecting their employees and guests from unwanted visitors, it makes sense to use EasyLobby visitor management techniques to validate licenses of all visitors entering their facilities.
